This is a bare root tree of the Prunus spp. typically called Wild Plum or Chickasaw Plum. These are native to Western North Carolina! They feed a multitude of native pollinators early in the season being one of the first flowers to emerge in Spring. Prunus species, like Wild Plums, support soft bodied caterpillars that feed birds like Chickadees. They will also feed you with their sour and sweet fruits. These trees grow super fast. They will grow about 30-40 ft if left unpruned. I like to plant mine in a hedge about 4 ft apart.

According to the National Wildlife Federation (https://nativeplantfinder.nwf.org/Plants/2732) Prunus spp support over 362 native insects!!!

Cut down a Callery Pear and plant a bunch of Wild Plums today!
